Man arrested after alleged clash at Voice to Parliament polling booth

A man has been taken to hospital and another man has been charged with serious assault after an incident at a polling booth for the Voice to Parliament referendum.

A man has been taken to hospital and another man has been arrested after an alleged violent clash at a Voice to Parliament polling booth in southeast Queensland.

Police allege that a “verbal altercation” erupted between a 65-year-old man and a 30-year-old man at 11:30am on October 3rd at an early voting centre in North Ipswich.

The altercation then allegedly turned violent when the younger man turned on the older man, physically assaulting him according to police.

“It will be further alleged the Raceview man initially left the scene before returning a short time later, where he was taken into police custody,” Queensland Police said.

The altercation happened on the same day that early voting began in Queensland on October 3.

The man was charged with serious assault and will appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on November 17.

The 65-year-old was taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment.
