Man and woman fight for life after head-on crash in thunderstorm
A man and a woman have been transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries in a horror head-on crash during a severe thunderstorm.
A man and a woman are fighting for life after a horror crash on the Gold Coast during a severe thunderstorm.
Emergency services were called to Rifle Range Rd in Pimpama on the Gold Coast after reports of cars being driven by a man and a woman colliding during heavy rain about 7.30am on Thursday.
The Queensland Fire Department and paramedics were on the scene within minutes and found the woman, believed to be in her 20s, trapped inside the car.
The woman was freed and transported to Gold Coast University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Paramedics also rushed the man to the Gold Coast University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Rifle Range Rd is closed in both directions, between Bull Rd and Coomera Springs Rd.
“Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes,” a police statement read.
Parts of Queensland, including the Gold Coast, are still being hit with major flooding following a deluge of torrential rainfall, destructive winds and tropical lows.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued severe thunderstorm warnings for the Gold Coast on Thursday morning, warning residents around Coolangatta of heavy rain and potential flash flooding.
