Man, 36, charged after pregnant woman allegedly attacked, mowed down by car in Sydney’s southwest
A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting and mowing down a pregnant woman with his car.
A man has been charged after a pregnant woman was left fighting for life when she was allegedly assaulted and run over in Sydney’s southwest.
Emergency services were called to Maddison Crt in Narellan Vale about 8.30am on Wednesday, finding a woman, 36, with multiple injuries following an alleged domestic violence-related attack.
The woman was treated at the scene by paramedics before being flown to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.
“Officers attached to Camden Police Area Command initiated a search to locate a man police believed could assist with inquiries into the incident,” a NSW Police spokesman said in a statement.
A man, 36, was arrested in a phone box near Camden Valley Way just before 11am.
Footage of his arrest, released by NSW Police, captures him being led out of a police vehicle as he is transported to Narellan Vale Police station.
The man has been charged with seven offences – including reckless grievous bodily harm, reckless wounding in company, common assault, grievous bodily harm by negligent act – vehicle, learner unaccompanied, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner and destroy/damage property.
The man was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on Thursday.
In an update on Wednesday afternoon, Detective Chief Inspector Paul Albury said the scene was “confronting”.
“They were met with a pretty horrendous scene,” he told 9 News at a press conference that afternoon.
“The woman had suffered serious injuries.”
He confirmed a car was found abandoned on Wattle Green Pl in Narellan Vale – less than 2km from the home.
