King Charles III gifted kangaroo jerky to honour the royal visit

A savvy businessman has taken the opportunity to gift a uniquely Australian delicacy to King Charles during his Royal visit.

King Charles might have just found his new favourite snack after accepting a gift of kangaroo jerky from a royal fan in Sydney.

Owner of Bondi Smokehouse, Christian Giles, came up with the idea of creating a limited edition kangaroo jerky with naive lemon myrtle to honour the royal visit to Australia.

But never in his wildest dreams did he think he’d have the opportunity to present His Majesty with the jerky product himself at St Thomas’ Anglican Church in North Sydney during the first official duty of short royal tour of Australia.

The special edition Kangaroo Jerky with lemon myrtle from Bondi Smokehouse was created in honour of King Charles III and Queen Camilla visiting.

Mr Giles said he made 1000 limited edition packets to celebrate the historic visit and gifted one packet to the King and another one wrapped in a red bow for Queen Camilla so the royal couple didn’t have to share on Sunday.

Mr Giles said he told the King he made the jerky for him and Queen Camilla and was delighted when His Majesty accepted the gift.

“I wanted to create something very special, the King doesn’t come here very often,” Mr Giles told NewsWire.

“I wanted to commemorate his visit to Australia with something special but I didn’t intend to meet him.

“I love the royals, they have so much power.

“It’s not a president or prime minister which changes all the time.

“He’s the King and it’s an unbelievable, crazy, pinch me moment.”

Mr Giles, who also works as a photographer, said he’s met many famous people during his career but nothing can top meeting King Charles.

“I’ve been shooting celebs a very long time but this is a top, top moment,” he said.

“It’s very nice, first to accept the package and then I got to chat with him, there were no phones, it was genuine talking.

“Things like this don’t happen every day.

“I’ve met Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

“But this moment with the King, it’s a highlight of my career and my life.”

Mr Giles, who had his six-year-old son on his shoulders during the interaction, said he’s been on cloud nine ever since.

“You can say you met the king but … having a chat with him and genuine eye-to-eye, I just wanted to enjoy the moment,” he said.

“He’s the same age as my dad.

“You’ve just got to treat everyone with the same respect. It’s important.”
