Intoxicated Perth man allegedly became abusive and punched wall at airport after he was refused entry to flight, cops say
An intoxicated passenger refused entry at a boarding gate has been charged with disorderly behaviour after he allegedly became abusive towards staff and punched a wall.
A passenger who was refused entry at an airport boarding gate has been charged with disorderly behaviour after he allegedly acted aggressively towards staff and punched a wall.
Police allege a 37-year old man from Byford, in Perth’s southeast, was intoxicated when staff denied him entry to a flight that was bound for Melbourne on March 24.
“When airline staff asked the man to leave the aircraft due to his intoxication, he was allegedly loud and aggressive towards them and later punched the wall outside a boarding gate with an open palm,” an Australian Federal Police (AFP) spokesperson said.
“AFP officers attended and arrested the man when he allegedly refused to identify himself.”
Detective Inspector Peter Brindal said the AFP would not tolerate disorderly or violent behaviour and commended the officers for their swift action.
“Our airports are a shared, safe space and airport and airline staff should not have to deal with intoxicated passengers, verbal abuse or any other bad behaviour,” he said.
“The AFP works closely with our partners in the airline industry to intervene if anyone’s behaviour in or around an airport becomes aggressive.“
The man was charged with disorderly conduct and refusing a request.
He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on Monday where he faces a potential $6000 fine.
