Infant dead, multiple other children and adult injured after house goes up in flames in Rokeby, Tasmania
An infant has died and multiple other children and an adult have been injured following a horrific house fire.
An infant has died and another child and an adult have been seriously injured following a horrific house fire in Tasmania.
Emergency services were called to an address in Benboyd Circle in Rokeby, in Hobart, about 9am on Sunday.
The house was fully alight by the time police and crews from the Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) arrived.
In a statement, Tasmania Police said an infant was found deceased in the residence.
Another young child an adult were taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious injuries.
Three other children were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Speaking to ABC News, one woman at the scene said she saw “flames everywhere” and “lots of smoke”.
“All the neighbours were coming to help … there was one man that had [taken] a fire extinguisher over and he smashed windows and got kids out,” the woman told the network, adding she also heard windows exploding and people screaming.
“TFS fire investigators will conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the fire,” the police statement continued.
Police will also prepare a report for the coroner.
