Hungry Jack’s evacuated after “unknown substance” affects staff and customers
Staff and customers had to be evacuated from a popular fast food chain after they were affected by a mystery substance similar to pepper spray.
Patrons and staff at a Hungry Jack’s restaurant in Adelaide’s north-east were evacuated from the premises on Thursday night after they were affected by a pepper-spray like substance.
Those inside the Ridgehaven fast food outlet were left coughing and suffering sore throats after being affected by the substance.
SA Police and MFS crews responded just after 8pm and some people were treated at the scene by paramedics.
It was first believed a gas leak was the cause.
“However, this was discounted by MFS,” police said in a statement.
“Further investigations revealed the substance was similar to pepper spray.”
Investigations are continuing.
