Holiday Inn Express Southbank Melbourne added to Victoria coronavirus exposure site list

A Melbourne hotel not used for hotel quarantine has been exposed to Covid-19 after a positive case stayed at the venue and dined there.

A hotel in Melbourne’s CBD has been exposed to coronavirus, with the positive case attending the site multiple times across two days.

The Department of Health added the Holiday Inn Express Southbank Melbourne as an infection hot spot on Sunday night.

Victoria Covid-19 response commander Jeroen Weimar said it was listed as an exposure site after the Virgin aircrew stayed there when they touched down in Melbourne on Friday night.

A Sydney-based flight attendant worked on five services while potentially infectious on June 25 and 26, staying overnight in Melbourne.

Anyone who attended the City Rd site on Saturday, June 26 between 12am and 6.45am must monitor for symptoms and if symptoms developed immediately get tested and isolate until a negative result was received.

Health authorities also issued other tier two and tier three warnings for the hotel:

  • Friday, June 25 between 6pm and 11.59pm; Tier 3.
  • Friday, June 25 between 6.15pm and 11.59pm; Tier 2 – warning for the 10th floor.
  • Saturday, June 26 between 12am and 6.45am; Tier 2 – warning for the 10th floor.
  • Saturday, June 26 between 6am and 6.45am; Tier 2 – warning for the ground floor lobby and the great room bar and restaurant.
  • Saturday, June 26 between 6pm and 6.45pm; Tier 2 – warning for the ground floor lobby and the great room bar and restaurant.

Anyone who visited a tier two exposure site must urgently get a Covid-19 test and isolate until they received a negative result.

The tier three advice was to monitor for symptoms and if symptoms developed to immediately get tested and isolate until a negative result was received.

The full list of the exposure sites is available on the Department of Health’s website.

Victoria has been on high alert after an Oakleigh man, in his 60s, tested positive to the virus last Thursday when he returned from a trip to Sydney.

The man’s co-worker at the Sandringham Dry Cleaners also tested positive, with genomic testing confirming both men were infected with the Indian Delta strain of coronavirus.

Victoria recorded no new local cases on Sunday.
