A councillor charged with the murder of his stepfather will be suspended from his $160,000-a-year- job, with pay, ahead of the upcoming local government election.

A young councillor charged with the murder of his stepfather will have to defend why he shouldn’t be suspended from his role with pay ahead of the 2023 local government election.

Gold Coast City Councillor Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden was granted bail last week after being charged with the alleged murder of his step father Robert Lumsden.

Queensland’s acting premier Steven Miles confirmed the 30-year-old councillor will be issued with a show cause notice on Monday as to why he shouldn’t be suspended on full pay as a Gold Coast City Councillor following the murder charge.

Mr Bayldon-Lumsden, who earns about $160,000 a year as a councillor, will have until September 8 to explain why he shouldn’t be suspended on full pay until the next election in March 2024.
