Former NSW minister Victor Dominello scores plum new gig with UTS and UNSW

One of Dominic Perrottet’s most recognisable ministers has moved to a new role in his first job since leaving politics.

Former NSW minister for customer service and digital government Victor Dominello has taken a plum new job with two of Australia’s most well-known universities.

In his first job after politics, Mr Dominello will lead a collaboration between the University of NSW and the University of Technology Sydney as director of the Trustworthy Digital Society Hub.

He has been working in the role since April 19 and helped create the platform that will work with individuals, businesses and governments. He will initially hold the role for a three-year term.

Mr Dominello said he looked forward to developing new technologies that prioritised “privacy, security and ethical considerations”.

“We founded the Trustworthy Digital Society Hub to help create a world where individuals and communities can fully benefit from the opportunities of the digital age without sacrificing their privacy, security or fundamental rights,” he said.

“It will serve as a trusted resource providing education, training and tools to help people understand the risks and benefits of digital technologies and to make informed decisions about how to use them safely and responsibly.”

During Mr Dominello’s multiple terms in government, he also championed the Service NSW app, which was instrumental during Covid when it processed QR-code check-ins, and the administration of Dine and Discover vouchers.

During the March state election, his long-held electorate of Ryde was very narrowly kept by the Liberal Party, with Jordan Lane winning on a slight margin of 0.1 per cent.

UNSW vice-chancellor and president Attila Brungs said Mr Dominello had a string of successes “modernising the delivery of government services in NSW”.

“UNSW looks forward to providing valuable guidance as part of this important collaboration for individuals, government and industry and creating a true digital society,” Mr Brungs said.

UTS vice-chancellor and president Andrew Parfitt believed Mr Dominello would help the Hub create an “equitable, inclusive and sustainable” digital space.

“It’s clear the role of technology in our lives will continue to grow, and it’s vitally important that people, government and business take a human-centred approach to developing the tools and capabilities to navigate the rapidly evolving tech landscape,” he said.
