A former Queensland basketball coach has been charged with further child sexual assault offences allegedly committed against three children over a number of years.

Queensland Police arrested the 67-year-old Mango Hill man on Friday and allege he committed five additional offences against three children known to him who were aged between 11 to 15.

Officers allege the acts were allegedly committed “during the course of his duties as a basketball coach”.

The alleged offences include four charges of indecent treatment of a child and one count of enter dwelling with intent.

Footage released of the man shows him answering the door before he is placed under arrest by an officer from the Gateway Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU).

The man has since been refused bail and was due to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday.

He was previously charged with seven counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and on count of grooming a child under 16 on January 31.

At the time police alleged the man “used his position as a basketball coach to groom a child prior to them turning 16-years-old,” before allegedly committing the offences.

The investigation was convened following reports of the allegations made to police on January 19, and have been probed under Operation Xray Modern.

In a statement shared on Saturday, Queensland Police confirmed investigations were ongoing and said support was being provided to those involved.

Officer in charge of Gateway CPIU, Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Lunney urged anyone with knowledge of the alleged offences to contact police, and commended the bravery of those who have come forward.

“Their bravery helps police hold the alleged offenders to account and gives others the courage to come forward,” he said.

“We encourage anyone else who has any knowledge of this type of offending, is themselves a victim-survivor of sexual violence or has information to provide in relation to this investigation to come forward.

“I want to reassure you that what has happened to you is not your fault and you are not alone, and that there are support services available to you.”
