A Melbourne food delivery driver has allegedly been threatened and pulled from his vehicle during a terrifying carjacking overnight.

The driver had just delivered a meal in Melton in the city’s west about 9pm on Tuesday and was returning to his car when a man allegedly threatened him with a weapon and pulled him from the car.

Police allege the offender and another man then got into the car in Faye St and drove off.

Senior Constable Alistair Parsons said police spotted the car near Barries Rd just after midnight on Wednesday and a short pursuit began.

He said the chase was quickly abandoned but police continued to monitor the car and observed a female passenger get out of the vehicle in a nearby carpark.

Sen-Constable Parsons said officers swooped and the Melton woman, 28, was arrested in the carpark a short time later.

The car was eventually abandoned on Bittern St, and the driver was arrested nearby at a Plover St house after attempting to flee on foot.

The driver, a Melton West man, 26, has been charged with seven offences, including aggravated carjacking with an offensive weapon, theft of a motor vehicle, conduct endangering serious injury, dangerous driving while being pursued by police and other driving-related offences.

He was taken into custody to face Melbourne Magistrates Court.

The woman was released pending further investigation.

Sen-Constable Parsons said police were continuing to investigate the incident, and anyone with information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
