Lynette, 33, vanished from the family’s Bayview home and her body has never been found. Dawson has always maintained his innocence.

Emotions ran high after the verdict was handed down, with Dawson’s brothers Peter and Paul clashing with media outside court.

Police had to intervene after one brother appeared to nudge a cameraman.

“That’s my wife,” one brother said.

After the scuffle, media continued to follow the family.

A police officer tried to shield the woman from the media and kept their hand on her back.

The brother then hugged his emotional wife, who appeared to be crying and distressed.

All three were wearing masks.

No arrests were made following the incident.

WHO IS CHRIS DAWSON?

Chris Dawson met his wife Lynette in 1965 when she was a 16-year-old student at Sydney Girls High and he attended Sydney Boys High.

They were aged 21 when they married in 1970.

Dawson was a professional rugby league footballer in the 1970s.

The couple’s first daughter was born in 1977, followed by their second in 1979.

That same year, Dawson began working at a Sydney Northern Beaches High School as a physical education teacher.

In 1980, he met a student, known as JC, who became the family’s babysitter and eventually his lover.

In January 1982, Lynette vanished and her body has never been found.

JC and Dawson built a home near his twin brother Paul and his wife Marilyn in 1985, and had a daughter.

The couple separated five years later.

Following two coronial inquests, three police investigations and a podcast by journalist Hedley Thomas, Dawson was finally charged with Lynette’s murder in 2018.

A judge found the 74-year-old guilty on Tuesday.

Dawson’s third wife Susan did not accompany him to court.
