Ex-footy player Nick Stevens accused of swimming pool scam
Police allege former Carlton and Port Adelaide player Nick Stevens ripped people off through a swimming pool scam in country Victoria.
TEN civilian witnesses will be called to give evidence in the case against former Port Adelaide AFL star Nick Stevens, who is accused of a swimming pool scam.
Stevens’ case was briefly heard in the Mildura Magistrates Court on Tuesday in a hearing to set dates for a committal process to test the evidence against him.
The former Port and Carlton player is facing seven charges including five of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage.
Police allege the 40-year-old “dishonestly obtained a financial advantage namely on the pretence of installing a functional swimming pool” but “did not use the money for the purpose for which (it was) provided”.
He obtained about $145,000 for the swimming pools in June, September, October and November 2017, police allege.
He is also charged with two counts of making a false document.
Mr Stevens’ “intention” will be the primary contested legal issue in his case, the court heard.
His committal is scheduled for February 25 and 26.
