Body of missing 14-year-old boy found in Mary River, Fraser Coast
Police have confirmed the body of a teenager who went missing during a tubing incident on Christmas Eve has been found.
The body of a teenager boy who went missing during a boating incident on Christmas Eve has been found after a lengthy search.
Emergency crews were called after reports a 14-year-old boy went missing in the Mary River near Greensill Rd at Owanyilla, 20km southwest of Maryborough in Queensland, about 10.20am on Sunday.
The boy was last seen when he fell into the river while water-tubing and failed to resurface.
Queensland Police confirmed the boy’s body was recovered by police divers shortly after 6pm on Sunday.
The death is not considered suspicious, and police will prepare a report for the coroner.
Police are currently assisting the boy’s family who have requested privacy during this difficult time.
The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter had also joined the search at 10.45am before returning to base at 1.30pm after it failed to find any signs of the boy in the water or river banks.
“The teen was believed to have been being towed behind a boat, on an inflatable tube, when he fell off and failed to resurface,” LifeFlight said in a statement.
