Elderly man assaulted, car stolen in home invasion in Sydney’s east

An elderly man was taken to hospital with injuries to his head and hands after the incident.

An elderly man has been assaulted and a car was stolen during a home invasion in Sydney’s east.

Emergency services were called to Jersey Street in Matraville about 11.10pm on Sunday following reports of a break and enter.

Officers were told a 65-year-old woman was approached by two men as they entered the home.

A 70-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by one of the men.

He suffered injuries to his head and hands.

Paramedics treated the 70-year-old at the scene before taking him to Prince of Wales Hospital in a stable condition.

The men allegedly took the keys to a blue Subaru XV and drove away.

An investigation has been launched into the incident, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.
