NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has refused to give details about the allegations that led him to sack Eleni Petinos from her job as Minister.

Ms Petinos lost her jobs as Fair Trading and Small Business Minister on Sunday, days after she was accused of running an unsafe office.

She has denied intentionally offending anyone and apologised to anyone made to feel uncomfortable.

Mr Perrottet said on Monday he had “received information” that made him doubt the “environment” in Ms Petinos’ office was safe.

“(Customer Service Department secretary Emma Hogan) put me through a range of issues and I formed the view that if there was any possibility at all that there was an unsafe workplace that I had to take action,” he said.

“I cannot be in a position as premier where ministerial staff or a member of the public service through a deal or arrangement in an office does not feel safe.

“Based on the information I have received I don’t believe the environment in that office was appropriate and that members of the public service did not feel comfortable.”

He said he wouldn’t give any details about the allegations because he wanted people to feel comfortable with making complaints if they need to.

“While it’s difficult for me today to have made this decision and not be able to provide further details in relation to the information I received yesterday, I ask you to trust my judgment,” he said.

Earlier, Mr Perrottet said in a statement that “some further matters concerning (Ms Petinos) had been brought to my attention”.

“In light of these matters, Ms Petinos’ service as a Minister will cease with immediate effect, and I will write to the Governor in this regard tomorrow,” he said.

Ms Petinos said in reply she was proud of the work she had done as Minister.

“I fought hard for small businesses who are the lifeblood of NSW and I will continue to advocate for them regardless of my role,” she said.

“The intense pressures and stresses of such important portfolios are significant for both staff and their Minister. I thank my staff for their efforts in supporting me to deliver for the people of NSW.

“I would never intentionally offend anyone or make them feel uncomfortable, and if I did I am truly sorry.

“I pursue politics to make a positive difference and will continue to do so proudly as the Member for Miranda.”

Ms Petinos was appointed Minister for the first time in December last year.
