Chaos as airports hit by major nationwide outage

Passengers at some of Australia’s busiest airports were asked to be patient until resolution of the issue.

Australian airports were thrown into chaos amid a major nationwide outage.

The Australian Border Force experienced a processing system outage on Sunday morning.

“Australian Border Force has advised it is expecting a nationwide system issue affecting all inbound and outbound passengers,” the message stated.

“ABF is currently processing passengers manually.

“We are currently prioritising flights to manage passenger flows.

“We appreciate passengers’ patience as ABF works to resolve this issue”.

The outage affected passport systems however it has resolved as of about 2pm AEST.

“The ABF system outage has been resolved,” Melbourne Airport posted to social media.

“Travellers are now being processed.

“Thank you for your patience.”

An ABF spokesperson said all systems are back online.

“The Australian Border Force has been working to restore a technical system outage, impacting passengers nationwide this morning,” the spokesperson said.

“The issue has been resolved at all airports and all systems are back online.

“The cause of the technical issue remains under investigation.

“We wish to thank travellers for their patience during this time.”

A Brisbane Airport spokeswoman said two flights to Auckland and Hong Kong had been delayed, but operations are back to normal.

“Systems were impacted for approximately one hour, affecting both inbound and outbound passengers at the International Terminal,” the spokeswoman said.

Extra staff have been rolled out at Sydney Airport following the issue.

“We have deployed additional staff to the terminals to assist passengers and bring them forward in order of flight priority,” a Sydney Airport spokesperson said.

“We would like to thank passengers for their patience as ABF works to resolve the issue.”
