Boys, 14, and girl, 13, to face court after alleged school shooting threat hoax

Two teenage boys and a teenage girl who allegedly shared separate photos of guns with threatening messages on social media have been ordered to face court over the hoax.

Three teenagers have been charged over alleged school shooting threat hoaxes at an Adelaide school posted on social media.

A 14-year-old boy from Brompton faced the Adelaide Youth Court charged with creating a false belief after police received reports a social media post with threatening language and a picture of a gun had been circulating.

Police determined the post on Snapchat showed an image that had been downloaded from the internet and the boy never had possession of a firearm.

Another 14-year-old boy from Elizabeth Downs was reported for creating a false belief and possessing a firearm without a licence following the report of another social media post.

Police were made aware of the post and spoke to the boy before searching his home and allegedly seizing a gel blaster – believed to be the firearm shown in the post.

The caption of one image was captioned “shooting Playford up,” referring to Playford International College.

He will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court at a later date.

Meanwhile, a 13-year-old girl will also face court after allegedly sharing a picture of a firearm on social media.

Police identified the image as a copy of an original social media post shared on Sunday, February 19.

The girl will be appear in the Adelaide Youth Court at a later date.

In a letter to students, Playford International College principal Karen Bond said the school had been assured there was no immediate risk.

“We are aware of the alarm this may cause parents and students, but we remain in contact with both the police and the Department of Education at all times in order to ensure we have the best advice possible to ensure the safety of students.”
