Australian Federal Police charge 21yo Brisbane man with child abuse offences
A Brisbane man has been charged with three counts of child abuse after the Australian Federal Police raided his home.
A Brisbane man faces 15 years imprisonment after the Australian Federal Police charged him with three counts of child abuse.
He was scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday after the Queensland Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team (JACET) charged him with one count of accessing child abuse material and two counts of possessing child exploitation material.
The AFP said between February and April of this year, the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE) received several reports from the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the United States.
It’s alleged the 21-year-old man from the Brisbane suburb of Wishart was uploading child abuse material online.
In June, Queensland JACET officers carried out a search warrant at a house in Wishart and seized a mobile phone, laptop and external hard drive.
AFP child protection operations Detective Superintendent Paula Hudson had a warning for those who think uploading child abuse material is a “victimless crime”.
“If you use or share child abuse material, you are perpetuating the physical and emotional abuse of children, it’s as simple as that,” she said.
“That’s why the work of the ACCCE and the AFP is so important to break the cycle of abuse that this vile material continues.
“Our work with international partners like NCMEC is key to targeting those involved in supporting this horrendous industry and stopping them from causing further harm to children by spreading child abuse material.”
