Australia has been handed another major cricket tournament and will host the 2028 men’s T20 World Cup as officials locked in venues for every tournament until 2031.

The new T20 World Cup champions will defend their title at home next year, but the 2028 version is the only other tournament among eight announced by the International Cricket Council given to Australia.

The United States has also been given hosting rights for the 2024 T20 World Cup with the West Indies which is seen as a launching pad to get cricket in to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

India is set to to host, or co-host, four of the 10 major white-ball men‘s international events scheduled for the next decade. including the already announced 2023 one-day World Cup.

No other nation will host more than one event, though every Test nation except Afghanistan will at least co-host an event.

“World Cups have the ability to bring communities together and inspire our next generation of fans and players, exactly as we saw for the ICC Women’s 2020 T20 World Cup in Australia,” Cricket Australia chief executive Nick Hockley said.

“We are incredibly proud of both our women’s and men’s teams as the current T20 World Cup champions, and we hope to continue our success in the upcoming ICC Men’s 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

“Looking ahead, we hope this can help build momentum in growing the game globally and take us a step further towards having cricket feature in the Olympic Games, with the 2028 event providing a perfect stepping stone into the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane.”
