AFL: Port Adelaide midfielder Dan Houston is out to win back the “trust” of his teammates following two week ban COVID breach

Port Adelaide midfielder Dan Houston says he’s out to win back the “trust” of his teammates after earning a recall following his two week ban for a breach of COVID protocols.

Port Adelaide midfielder Dan Houston says he’s out to win back the “trust” of his teammates after earning a recall following his two week ban for a breach of COVID protocols.

Houston given the green light to return against North Melbourne at Adelaide Oval on Saturday after a few “tough conversations” during his time on the sidelines.

The Power was handed a $50,000 fine, with half suspended, Houston was suspended for two weeks and teammate Peter Ladhams for three weeks after both were caught hosting a party at their Adelaide home.

Houston said it was now up to him to “make amends” as Port pushes for a premiership after letting down his teammates and the club.

“Obviously we made an error in judgment. The protocols are very clear and we obviously regret the decision that we made,” Houston said.

“We let a lot of people down and the last couple of weeks have been pretty tough. I’ve had a few tough conversations with the boys and the club.

“I’m really looking forward to learning from these few weeks and letting a few people down … the people who have stuck by us. I look forward to making amends.”

Houston was a standout in a scratch match against Sydney last week and said he owed it to the club to bring his best over the next few weeks as Port heads to the finals.

Ladhams will be available for selection for Port’s Round 17 clash with Essendon.

“I really want to turn it around,” Houston said.

“We’ve (both) wanted to earn back to trust of the players and the club and put in the hard work at training and in the scratch matches.

“I’m very thankful I have been given the chance to come back this week.”
