A nine-year-old girl has died after her unconscious body was pulled out of a backyard swimming pool.
Emergency services were called to Rosaki Close in Edensor Park just after 4.30pm on Sunday to respond to reports of an unconscious child being pulled out of a swimming pool.
A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance said a bystander administered CPR before paramedics arrived at the house in Sydney’s west.
Multiple ambulance crews, including intensive care paramedics and a medical team consisting of a doctor, attended the scene and treated the primary school student.
The girl was then rushed to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition.
She was pronounced dead a short time later.
NSW Police said officers attached to the Fairfield City Police Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
The drowning incident occurred on a quiet cul-de-sac in Edensor Park, a suburb in Sydney’s west.
It comes amid a particularly deadly summer in Australia, during which at least 83 people have fatally drowned.
