Conquering Westeros wasn’t enough for Sydney actor Milly Alcock; she now has her sights set on the DC Universe.

Alcock, 23, who broke through playing young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, heir to the Iron Throne, in the hit Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, will play Supergirl in the upcoming DC blockbuster Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

She beat out CODA actress Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly, who voiced Supergirl in the animated films Legion of Superheroes and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite, to play the Woman of Steel.

The film, spearheaded by DC chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran, was unveiled during a press event in January last year. It is inspired by Tom King’s 2022 comic book series of the same name.

“Milly is a fantastically talented young actor, and I’m incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU,” Gunn wrote in a post on Instagram. “I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for Supergirl.”

Ana Nogueira, who wrote the supernatural teenage drama series The Vampire Diaries, will pen the script. No director has been confirmed.

Gunn said that the upcoming film will be “much more hardcore,” than previous Supergirl incarnations. “She’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”
