WASO orchestrates a Raiders of The Lost Ark revival
Cinematic sound is pretty impressive but Raiders of the Lost Ark with a full symphony backing is a real adventure.
To commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Indiana Jones film franchise, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra plays John Williams’s original score live alongside two screenings of the first film, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.
The Indiana Jones films have become cult classics, solidifying lead actor Harrison Ford (pictured) as one of Hollywood’s greats. Raiders of the Lost Ark won five Academy awards in 1982 (including best production design) and the film’s soundtrack, originally recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra, received an Oscar nomination for best original score.
The WASO performances will be led by Australian musician and conductor Benjamin Northey.
“A live orchestra will add a whole new dimension to this iconic film,” WASO executive manager Evan Kennea says.
“Imagine the buzz in that theatre when our WASO trumpets let rip with the Raiders’ March theme.”
Performances are at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on June 15 and 16.
