Peter Garrett launches first solo album A Version of Now
Midnight Oil singer and retired federal minister Peter Garrett will release his first solo album on July 15.
Midnight Oil singer and retired federal minister Peter Garrett has announced he will release his first solo album on July 15.
The album, A Version of Now, comes on the back of the announcement that Midnight Oil will re-form for an Australian tour next year.
In a statement today Garrett, who published his memoirs Big Blue Sky last year, said he decided to make an album while he was writing the book.
“As I was finishing my memoir, melodies and lines kept dropping into my head and, big surprise, I ended up writing a few songs,” he said. “Once these tunes were out in the sunlight I decided I might as well jump into a studio and record what I had along with a few other bits and pieces I’d always liked.“
A single from the album, Tall Trees, is released today.
“The songs are reflections of turbulent decades on the rack,” said Garrett, “and the people and things that meant the most to me.”
