Drone flies into Drake’s $40k-per-night Crown Sydney penthouse, scares superstar
The drone recorded the Canadian singer walking onto the balcony of his 88th floor Crown penthouse before he panicked and attempted to throw a shoe at the device.
Drake, the American rapper who has built his entire career on being both in on the joke and the punchline, was caught in an absurd stand-off in Sydney this week.
The opponent? A drone, hovering just outside his penthouse at The Crown. His weapon of choice? A bright orange slide, lobbed with all the force of a man who has never thrown anything in his life.
The brief video, which surfaced online on Tuesday, has all the makings of a comedy sketch — leading some to speculate whether the moment was real or staged.
The rapper, who is currently on a 14-date tour of Australia, steps onto his balcony, flinching as he notices the drone hovering near his laptop (on which a gambling site is displayed).
He quickly retreats inside before returning with the slide, which he lobs in the drones direction.
His attempt is unsuccessful and the drone backs away, capturing a wide shot of the hotel and the sydney skyline.

Online commenters have speculated whether the video was a stunt to promote the release of his new album. $OME $EXY $ONGS 4 U ($$$4U), which has received a lukewarm response from critics.
The Australian understands the video was a stunt. Crown Sydney declined to comment.
Drake has used unconventional promotional tactics in the past, including a staged Howard Stern interview and a faux SNL performance with 21 Savage for ‘On BS,’ complete with an introduction from actor Michael B. Jordan.
On Saturday night, Drake played a secret, exclusive show in Sydney to promote the release of $$$4U at the tiny, underground Sydney bar Caterpillar Club.
The rapper will play three shows in Sydney on February 19 and 20 and March 4 and three shows in Brisbane on February 24 and 25 and March 4.
