Elliott Gyger, Paul Grabowsky and Andrew Schultz are among the nominees for this year’s Art Music Awards, which recognise leading jazz and symphonic musicians across Australia.

The finalists, announced today, reflect a diverse range of contemporary music that covers 11 categories, including vocal, chamber, instrumental and experimental projects.

Other nominees include Claire Edwardes, Peter Knight, Michael Kieran Harvey, Paul Stanhope, Ensemble Offspring and Moorambilla Voices, plus Laurence Pike and Mike Nock, who are nominated in the jazz work of the year category for their album Beginning and End of Knowing.

Mark Isaacs and the Alister Spence Trio are among the candidates for the excellence in jazz award, while the Australian Art Orchestra and Queensland Music Festival are two of the contenders for excellence in music education.

A prize for distinguished services to Australian music also will be awarded. The winners will be announced on August 16 in Melbourne at an event hosted by Jonathan Biggins.
