Carrie Fisher: footage of first Star Wars audition emerges

Video footage of Carrie Fisher’s audition for the role of Princess Leia in the first Star Wars film has emerged.

Video footage of Carrie Fisher’s audition for the role of Princess Leia in the first Star Wars film has emerged as the world mourns the actress’ death from a heart attack.

The black and white clip shows Fisher, dressed modestly in a jersey and calf length skirt, her hair pushed behind her ears, facing up to Harrison Ford as Han Solo as the two discuss how the Rebellion can take down the Death Star.

Fisher, then 19, speaks quietly and intently as Ford’s Solo questions her plan. In the first take she uses hand movements to emphasises her points but in the second, she holds the scene with her voice and expression.

The footage ends with Fisher looking straight into the camera, giving her name and age.
