Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, writes children’s book called The Bench

The Duchess has written a book about ‘the eternal bond’ between fathers and sons, as seen through the eyes of the mother.

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, wrote a poem for Prince Harry last Father’s Day, to celebrate his first year as a Dad.

That poem will now be shared with all of us, since it’s the basis of her new children’s book, to be released on June 8.

You can order now, she says, in an official announcement on her website, Archewell, named for son Archie, who turns two this week.

An audio version of the book, read by Meghan herself, who is pregnant with the couple’s second child, a girl, will also be made available.

The 40-page book, The Bench, is about “the eternal bond” between fathers and sons, as seen through the eyes of the mother.

It has been illustrated by US-based artist, Christian Robinson, and Meghan says she wanted to make sure it was “inclusive” and featured all types of fathers, from “all walks of life.”

Meghan says she was inspired to write a poem for Harry because he’s such a good dad, and “that poem became this story”.

“Christian (Robinson) layered in beautiful and ethereal watercolour illustrations that capture the warmth, joy and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons.”

The book has been illustrated by a US-based artist.

Diversity was “particularly important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens.”

The book is one of several projects that Meghan and Harry have announced since stepping away from royal duties in early 2020.

Meghan narrated the Disney nature film Elephant and the couple has a Netflix deal.
