Sydney duo Royel Otis are the top nominees for the 2024 ARIA Awards, with eight nominations.

Their debut album, the jangly, lo-fi PRATTS & PAIN, which has amassed over 300 million streams, is recognised in several major categories, including Album of the Year and Best Independent Release. Meanwhile, the single Murder on the Dancefloor earned a nomination for Song of the Year.

“It’s literally crazy, we never could have pictured this,” the duo, made up of Otis Pavlovic and Royel Maddell, said. “We thought that last year was our only shot at the ARIAs with the nomination for Breakthrough Artist, so to receive eight this year is ridiculous; we were in complete shock!”

Dom Dolla isn’t far behind, with six nominations. The Melbourne producer, real name Dominic Matheson, was nominated for a Grammy this year in the Best Remix category for his reworking of Gorillaz’s “New Gold.” He is up for Best Solo Artist and Best Dance/Electronic Release for his dancefloor-primed single “Saving Up.” He expressed that being nominated six times left him speechless: “I grew up watching the ARIAs; they hold such a special place in Aussie music history and mean a lot to me as an Australian artist.”

Pop sensation Kylie Minogue — who this year won her second Grammy for her chart-topping earworm Padam Padam — is up for five awards. “This is beyond,” she said, adding that she was overwhelmed to be nominated in five categories and “thrilled to be amongst such wonderful company.” Angie McMahon, too, earned five nods for her starkly beautiful second album, Light, Dark, Light Again.

They lead artists like 3%, Amy Shark, RÜFÜS DU SOL, The Kid LAROI, Tones And I, and Grammy-nominated superstar Troye Sivan — who is currently tearing up arenas across the US with Charli XCX — all of whom snagged four nominations.

Shark, who has eight ARIA Award wins to her name, said that being nominated this year was “particularly special.”

“Sunday Sadness was an album three years in the making, and to be recognised in this way by ARIA is something I’ll never forget.”

Australian country music’s most awarded Golden Guitar winner, Troy Cassar-Daley, is up for three awards for his “most personal” album Between The Fires. “For it to be received with such love, critically and personally, has been a career highlight,” he said.

Confidence Man, FISHER, Mildlife, Miss Kaninna, SPEED, and Troy Cassar-Daley each received three nominations.

ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd said that this year’s roster of nominees highlights “the huge shift in positive momentum that the Australian music industry experienced this year.”

“This year we get to celebrate a deep list of household names in Australian music that span all genres. It’s a time to acknowledge those who are achieving amazing things and spotlight those who are about to, to ensure we continue this momentum forward into 2025.”
