Jailed Dokic ill as daughter cuts ties

By Selma Milovanovic

DAMIR Dokic was teetering on the edge of a diabetic coma in a Serbian jail as his tennis player daughter Jelena ruled out a reunion with her father.

Dokic's sugar levels rose dangerously on Monday night and the diabetes sufferer was placed on a drip to avert slipping into a diabetic coma.

His de facto wife has questioned the fairness of his jailing on charges of endangering the safety of the Australian ambassador to Serbia, as a bail hearing scheduled for last Friday did not happen and his appeal papers seem not to have reached the court.

Under Serbian law, convicts who appeal against a jail sentence are usually bailed pending the outcome of their appeal.

Dokic, 50, was jailed earlier this month for 15 months. Two illegal bombs and 20 bullets were found in his house, along with several legally owned rifles, after he threatened to blow up the ambassador if she did nothing to stop Australian press reports he had beaten his tennis star daughter.

Jelena Dokic, who crashed out of Wimbledon on Tuesday in the first round, ruled out the chance of a reunion with her domineering father, after speculation in Serbian media she would visit him after the tournament was over.

"Now and forever, there is nothing, no way that I would ever reunite with him or ever have a relationship with him," she said after the match.

"This is the last sentence ever you guys will hear from me, and that's the way it is."

Damir Dokic's de facto wife, Biljana Bosancic, told Serbian paper Press Online that the County Court of Sremska Mitrovica, the city where Dokic is jailed, had not considered his bail request pending an appeal.

She said she had been getting "contradictory information from the courts": officials at the Ruma Magistrates Court had told her they had sent the Dokic case file to the County Court in Sremska Mitrovica, which claims it has not received it.
