The Socceroos have set up a round of 16 clash with Lionel Messi’s Argentina on Sunday at 6am AEDT.
Australia earned second place in their group and a berth in the knockout rounds with a 1-0 win over Denmark in the early hours of this morning after Mathew Leckie’s second-half strike.
It’s just the second time the Socceroos have qualified for the second round of a World Cup. The 2006 side lost to Italy after a penalty in the final minutes.
Argentina moved up to first place in their group with a 2-0 win over Poland who will play France in their round of 16 game.
