MATCH REPORT: Trossard seals derby win for Arsenal over Tottenham

Leandro Trossard rekindled Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes with the winner as they came from a goal down to beat north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at home on Wednesday.

Starting the derby seven points behind leaders Liverpool in third place, things looked bad for the hosts when Son Heung-min’s deflected volley gave Tottenham a 25th-minute lead against the run of play.

The mood changed quickly before halftime though as Gabriel’s header from a Declan Rice corner deflected in off Tottenham forward Dominic Solanke in the 40th minute.

Four minutes later Arsenal went ahead when Trossard fired a left-foot shot past the dive of Spurs keeper Antonin Kinsky.

Arsenal failed to take several chances to finish off Tottenham after the break and were never entirely comfortable but they did enough to earn the win that lifted them back into second place with 43 points from 21 games. Liverpool have 47 from one game fewer.

Tottenham, now without a win in five league games, are 13th with 24 points.

Thanks and goodbye

Thanks for your company this morning. That’ll be the end of our live coverage this morning. Well done to Arsenal, a thoroughly deserved win - and another worrying performance by Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham.

Catch you next time.

‘Nowhere near good enough’: Ange Postecoglou speaks

The Tottenham boss has just had a chat to TNT Sports and it doesn’t seem like he’s blaming the corner-that-wasn’t:

Nowhere near good enough. Especially in the first half, we were just way too passive. That’s what dictated the game. Obviously, we were hanging in there, but that’s all we were doing.

Second half was a little bit better, but nowhere good enough … unacceptable.

Ultimately, the responsibility lies on me and how we prepared the players and what their mindset was going out there. It certainly wasn’t our intent when we started the game.

We’ve had too many losses this year, too many games where we’ve let it get away from us and that needs to stop.

FULL-TIME: Arsenal 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur

And there’s the whistle.

Arsenal win 2-1. Spurs fall short again. Ange Postecoglou’s search for his first North London derby win continues, and the critics will be sharpening their knives for him again.

Excellent win for Arsenal, who move to second on the Premier League table. Disappointing night for Tottenham, who remain 13th.

It’s all happening

Solanke goes for a bicycle kick to meet Porro’s cross… he gets it wrong. It goes out for a goal kick, and the Arsenal fans celebrate with some Bronx cheers.

This is almost out of reach for Spurs. Best they can hope for now is a point. They’re going long, Dragusin is sent forward to play as a striker… Porro crosses, and Raya bats it away from sneaking into the front post! Actually it comes off the post, so it won’t be a corner. How unlucky is that...

Five minutes of stoppage time to come

...but it’s not looking good for Spurs. Do they have any punches left to throw?

Odegaard misses!

He could have sealed it for Arsenal for point-blank range but the Norweigian puts it wide. What a let-off for Spurs… they go to the other end and win a corner.

James Maddison needs to get this ball right... before he can try, Bergvall hits the floor amid some sort of coming-together with Lewis-Skelly. The ref gives them both a talking to. Bergvall is alleging he was kicked! If so, the VAR will take care of that.

Arsenal are making a sub now - as they await the corner kick. Lewis-Skelly is coming off and is shown a yellow card as he makes his way. He’s revving up the crowd big style. Declan Rice is also coming off, so Zinchenko and Merino come on.

You don’t often see double-changes at corner kicks. Will that cost them?

No, as it turns out.

Tick, tock...

Gabriel gives it the double fist-pump and roar after seeing out some danger down Tottenham’s right-hand side, shielding the ball from Kulusevski as it goes out for a goal kick. That’s given the crowd some real energy. You don’t often see defensive actions celebrated like a goal!

I mentioned earlier that time is running out for Spurs. That continues to be the case.

Here’s Richarlison...

...for his first appearance in more than two months out through injury. He replaces Son Heung-min, another roll of the dice by Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs remain under the pump

Another attempt to play out by Tottenham crumbles near the edge of their box, and they just dodge disaster with some last-ditch lunges.

Arteta is making another change: Trossard is off. Kieran Tierney comes on for the last 14 minutes or so.
