Race-by-race preview and tips for Wednesday meeting at Warwick Farm
By Ray Hickson
Selections based on a soft track.
Race 1
6. Regulated Affair made a promising debut in late March with a close second at Kensington as a drifter in betting. Kept fresh and had a nice soft trial leading in, with the inside gate he’ll get every chance to go one better. 2. Bombay Boom has been in the market at both starts in open two-year-old races late last year and has run fair races. Back to a maiden and with a trial leading in he could show a lot more this time. 4. Equerry has had the one public trial, and it was a sound one for a close second in a 740m heat. Well-bred colt in the Waller yard and market a good pointer.

Race 2
1. Agarwood brings a big trial win into her debut, and it’ll be interesting to see if she backs it up under race conditions. Scored by almost eight lengths in a 1045m heat, draws to be right up there and should be the one to catch. 2. Avon Calling scored a stylish trial win at Wyong a couple of weeks ago. She’s taken a bit of time, but on that performance and with the inside alley, she’ll get her chance to show up. 6. Litigate is another trial winner; she did a good job from the front to score at Warwick Farm in mid-April. Check the market for any push.
How to play it: Agarwood WIN
Race 3
5. Frankley Sublime was solidly supported on debut, and while just failing she did a good job to finish as close as she did around Gosford on Anzac Day. 2. Hopper returns as a gelding after two starts in November, where he finished just behind the placings on both occasions. Ready after two trials to run a big race fresh. 8. Winner Of Kowloon led and held on for third at her debut at Canterbury on Easter Monday. That was over 1100m, and she was solid in betting, so she’s entitled to another chance.

Race 4
2. Negotiations is a big market watch first up since November where he bled at Randwick in a high benchmark race. Was right in the market there too on the back of two placings in strong form races prior. Two quiet trials. Keep very safe. 3. Extravagent Lad can be forgiven for his Randwick failure in stronger company where he was in the second half and did not run on. Solid winner prior at Orange and placed at Randwick on Boxing Day, so is good enough to rebound. 4. Pokerjack resumed with a fading fourth in the same race at Orange, but will be much fitter for it. Might need one more run and 1100m, but big drop in weight after the claim so can improve.

Race 5
5. Seafall was more than acceptable in her first-up fourth at Canterbury when closing the race off from well off the speed. First couple home dominated that race. Fitter and second-up form is far superior. 7. Sigiriya Rock is right back in class after two group 3 attempts, where he had his chance in both and battled on fairly to record two fifths. Every chance to produce something back to midweeks and with McDonald retaining. 4. Our Empress Zoe was a solid favourite when scoring at Canterbury third-up, where she tracked the leader and ran it down late. Good chance if she can hold form.

Race 6
9. Dame Commander looks to have a good chance to post her second win back in class after a close sixth in group 3 company at Randwick first-up. This is her first run out of stakes grade since her maiden win, and she’ll relish the mile. 5. Villasaurus is a consistent galloper who ran right up to his short price to score easily at Albury a few weeks ago. Rarely far away and has found a good race to be competitive in. 10. Sounds Unusual showed promise in his first campaign, and it ended with a win over 1900m at Canterbury on January 1. Kicking off at this trip suits, and he should run well fresh with a view to longer races.

Race 7
2. Clear Proof hasn’t done a whole lot in two runs back, but he did make some ground here last time at 1200m in a good form race. Gets softer conditions, draws a lot better than his past two and finds a very winnable race so he can improve. 11. Secure did quite a good job up on the speed at Canterbury and broke away late for an easy maiden win. Up 200m but has the right platform and sure to run well again. 10. Pink Shalala hasn’t done a whole lot wrong in seven starts and scored a deserved maiden win back on February 21 at Canterbury. Can run well fresh.

Race 8
4. Hellbent On You has been excellent this preparation with a first-up win and two city placings by small margins. Slowly out last time, and it might have been costly as she just failed to catch Candlewick over 1200m. Only has to hold form to be a good chance. 6. Miss Kim Kar resumed in the same race and hit the line nicely into third. Drawn wide again, so tactics will be interesting as she’s generally been an on pacer. 5. Just Feelin’ Lucky was heavily supported when resuming at Newcastle and got the job done almost a month ago. Runner-up has since won. Every chance to take the next step.
