Race-by-race preview and tips for Hawkesbury on Tuesday
By John Schell
Selections based on a soft track.
Race 1
1. Able Yellow made his debut with a third at this track when leading and fighting on well enough, and he backed that up with a solid second at Gosford at his only other start. He’s drawn to get the run of the race from the rails alley and should break his maiden. 8. Share The Joy has been thereabouts of late with a few placings before a last-start fourth at Newcastle. She should get into the minor money again. 5. Lucky Star ran an improved race when a last-start second at Orange and a repeat of that effort would have him figuring in the placings. 4. Legris has not been far away in each of his past two starts in provincial company.
How to play it: Able Yellow to win.

Race 2
3. Bastet had two trials before making her debut at Gosford and running a good race when finishing third in a small field. She has the advantage of gate one in this, which should give her every chance. 5. Manukau was well in the market on debut at Rosehill, and while she did not do a lot in that event, she should find this an easier assignment and improvement is expected. 7. Twinkling Star went down narrowly when a last-start second at Kembla Grange. 8. Super Nui has been placed in both runs either side of a spell and can get into the minor money again.
How to play it: Bastet each way.
Race 3
1. Gandalf is a locally trained galloper that is on debut and has had three trials leading into this, finishing second in the last of them at Warwick Farm when just edged out. He’s drawn awkwardly out wide, but looks to have the talent to give this a shake. 5. Sosueme is also on debut. She has had three trials, returning from a break for the last of them in which she was a close-up second at this track. 4. Paralia had two starts in July and August, and showed enough in them to be rated a chance of figuring fresh. 7. Mane Character is resuming on the back of a trial win.
How to play it: Gandalf to win.
Race 4
7. That’s Outstanding has been placed at Canberra. He resumed with a solid fourth at Kembla Grange when running home well and is suited by the step up in distance. 13. Polymnia resumed with a strong second at Warwick Farm and then started an odds-on favourite at the same track last time out when finishing second again. She’s close to a win. 14. Rock All Night made her debut with a third at Wyong, and she can figure prominently getting up in trip. 5. Saucito has finished fourth and fifth in his only two starts and could get into the placings.
How to play it: That’s Outstanding each way.
Race 5
7. Cigar Man ran a good race on debut when finishing fourth at Nowra, and he backed that up by scoring a good win at Wyong over subsequent winner Queen Strada. He’s drawn well here and looks suited by the step up in distance from the good draw. 2. Clubman is lightly raced but has a good record with two wins and a second from just the three runs. He looms as a danger again. 6. Our Uptown Girl was a winner at Newcastle two starts ago and then ran a creditable fourth at Kembla Grange when last produced. 9. Jayashree has been racing well with a Newcastle win followed by a second at Canterbury behind a handy one.
How to play it: Cigar Man to win.
Race 6
8. Debello was midfield at Wyong two starts back when beaten just over four lengths, then was back to his best when hitting the line hard to score at Kembla Grange last time out. 6. Starboard has two wins and two placings from four starts and won well enough at this track when resuming. 1. Dr Evil is a well-performed galloper that can make an impact despite the big weight. 2. Hellfire Express won at Newcastle before being spelled and can sprint well fresh here.
How to play it: Debello to win.
Race 7
15. Swelter ran well at Warwick Farm last time out when fourth behind Brigidine Gal and only needs to run up to that effort to be hard to hold out. 4. Imposing Pier followed a Kembla Grange win with a solid fourth at Rosehill and is worth thought. 9. Rotagilla was a Newcastle winner on debut and resumed with a fifth at Canterbury. 10. Golden Loom scored well at Kembla Grange at his last start and can show up again.
How to play it: Swelter to win.
