Star Collingwood ruckman Brodie Grundy is speaking with Fox Footy following the clash, with former coach Nathan Buckley interviewing him as part of the On The Couch crew.

Grundy says he enjoyed the contest with Essendon young gun Sam Draper, who Buckley says had his measure in the second and third quarters.

But Buckley said both Grundy and Darcy Cameron stood up in the last.

“Thanks, coach!” Grundy said.
“That’s what we’re trying to do - take it moment by moment.”

Grundy also speaks about Jack Ginnivan thriving under pressure.
“Internally, we absolutely love his personality and just keep encouraging him to be himself,” he said, adding that Collingwood’s famous GoPro was “in other hands” in the aftermath of the game.

Grundy is asked about his knee after his collision in the ruck with Draper, and he gives a very simple reply sure to be of great relief to Pies fans: “I should be fine - absolutely.”

FT: Collingwood 15.3 (93) d Essendon 12.10 (82)

Collingwood have come out with the points in a very close battle with Essendon in front of 84,205 people at the MCG.

With the biggest crowd at the MCG since the 2020 Women’s Cricket World Cup final, the Magpies had to wait until the last term to make their move but they took a 17-point lead and were never caught.

Jack Ginnivan had an Anzac debut to remember kicking five goals while Brody Grundy stepped up in the last term with some very timely plays at both ends of the ground.

Essendon were brave with Darcy Parish posting more than 40 disposals and Alec Waterman kicking four goals but they couldn’t make the polish and run of the Magpies.

Waterman keeps it interesting

Alec Waterman has again come up with the ball inside the 50m arc and he has kicked his fourth goal.

The Bombers may run out of time here but Waterman has been so good today.

It has sounded like many more but still wonderful to see so many people in the same place on such a special occasion in the AFL season.
