Isla Fisher sells $1m Sydney home that she bought for $171,500

By Emily Power

Australian actor Isla Fisher is preparing to hand over the keys to her only Australian property – a Sydney apartment she bought at 19.

Fisher’s apartment at 12/96 Wallis Street, Woollahra, sold on October 22 for an undisclosed sum.

It was booked for an auction, but a tactical change ensued, and the two-bedroom pad, in an art deco block, remained on the market for private negotiation.

The listed price guide was updated to $990,000 before the deal was inked.

The agents in charge were Maria Ciancio and Michael Minogue from KJ Agency. Nine has approached them for comment.

Fisher, a Home & Away darling who became a global household name after her breakout Hollywood role in Wedding Crashers, bought the neat apartment in 1995 for $171,500, at the height of her soapie stardom, The Sydney Morning Herald reported this year.

It was understood to be her only slice of Australian real estate.

The apartment, with a sweet, circular balcony and a galley-style kitchen, is within walking distance of Bondi Junction in a highly sought pocket.

“With a New York-inspired feel, this outstanding art deco apartment offers the best of the east in location and lifestyle,” the listing says.

“Flooded with natural light, it blends serene park-side living with a cosmopolitan flair, all within a stone’s throw from Sydney’s most sought-after spots.

“Directly across from Centennial Park, this newly renovated home brings you the ultimate convenience. Whether it’s a morning coffee at Woollahra village or a shopping spree at Bondi Junction, you’ll enjoy the perfect balance of nature and city life.”

Fisher and her former husband, comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, announced in April they were splitting after a decade of marriage.

She was photographed in September this year in Paris supporting fellow Australian creatives – the Zimmermann sisters – at their Paris Fashion Week show.
