Woman arrested after toddler punched in face at Perth shopping centre

Police have arrested a woman wanted for questioning over a shocking incident where a toddler was hit in the face in a Perth shopping centre by a stranger.

In the incident, which was captured on CCTV, the suspect allegedly assaulted the two-year-old girl causing facial injuries.

The mother and her daughter were standing near the door to the Park Centre in Victoria Park on Tuesday about 1.25pm when an attacker approached and lunged at them.

Bystanders said they did not see what had happened but rushed to help after the mother screamed.

Detectives have taken Pamile-Raye Jetta, 21, into custody. She has since been charged with aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm and is due to appear in court on Thursday.

WA Premier Roger Cook said he was pleased police had made an arrest.

“It must have been incredibly traumatic for the mother and potentially very serious injuries for the baby involved,” he said.

“I think we’re all appalled and shocked by the footage that we saw in the media and I just hope the mother and baby are well and wish them the very best.”
