Thousands of year 12 students have now received their West Australian Certificate of Education, marking the official end of 13 years at school.
The Tertiary Institutions Service Centre has revealed 9992 of those students achieved an ATAR, slightly more than in 2023.
For 18 students, their results contained an additional surprise – the highest possible ATAR of 99.95. For the first time, the 18 students to receive the top mark were all boys.
The highest median ATAR was achieved by students completing mathematics specialist (96.75), mathematics methods (92.60), chemistry (90.95), literature (91.00), and physics (89.95).
TISC chief-executive Andrew Crevald said studying for an ATAR was considered one of the best preparations for thriving at university.
“However, possessing an ATAR is only one of the attributes required to be a successful university student,” he said.
“We know some students will be challenged by their results, but there are many pathways to get where you want to go and plenty of people available to help you get there.”
Methodist Ladies’ College principal Rebecca Clarke said she wanted to congratulate the class of 2024 for their outstanding achievements in their WACE examinations.
“Learning is a journey and each student has been encouraged to pursue excellence within the pathway that is right for her.
“ATAR is one such pathway and we are immensely proud of all of our students for the time and dedication they have put into their studies.
“We look forward to watching them continue to strive to the heights and to celebrate their future achievements.”
Perth Modern principal Mitchell Mackay said students’ academic achievements were a testament to their hard work and dedication.
“Their active involvement in their local communities showcases their commitment to making a positive impact beyond the classroom,” he said.
“Their achievements reflect the high standards we uphold.
“We celebrate their success and look forward to seeing them continue to excel in their future endeavours.”
The first round of university offers will go out on December 21. Students will then have time to reassess their options, with the second round of major offers closing on January 15.
