A Mandurah beach has been closed after a jetski rider had a close call with a shark just 100 metres offshore on Wednesday morning.
The jetski was reportedly stationary when it was bumped by a two-metre bronze whaler just after 7am at Town Beach, about 70 kilometres south of Perth.
The rider was uninjured in the close encounter.
The incident was later reported to the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, which issued a public warning.
The City of Mandurah has temporarily closed the popular swimming beach, as officers continue to monitor the situation.
It comes just hours after the release of an international report which showed Australia recorded more fatal shark attacks in 2023 than anywhere in the world, and had among the most shark incidents.
Almost half of the 15 shark incidents that occurred nationally last year were recorded in Western Australia.
More to come.
