Police hunt Kalgoorlie man accused of stealing cars with children inside

Police are hunting for a man who allegedly stole two cars with children inside them along Great Eastern Highway in Kalgoorlie on Wednesday afternoon.

Shocking CCTV footage released by police shows a woman racing for her orange Kia Sportage which has her child inside as a shirtless man jumps in and drives away.

The woman attempts to open the door, and holds on for as long as she can, but eventually is forced to let go as the car speeds off.

The incident occurred at 4.05pm on Great Eastern Highway in Somerville, near Gatacre Drive.

Just 15 minutes earlier, around 3.50pm, the same man allegedly approached and stole a white Kia Sorento station sedan, also on Great Eastern Highway in West Kalgoorlie. Two infants were inside at the time.

Shortly after each incident, the children inside the vehicles were located safe and well by police, but the identity of the man remains unknown. Both cars have since been recovered.

Kalgoorlie detectives are have called for the public’s help to identify the man.

He is described as approximately 160 centimetres tall, of slim build and dark complexion, and was wearing black tracksuit pants, a black hoodie, and carrying a white clutch bag.
