Man in India charged over sexual abuse of WA girl via social media

A man who allegedly sexually abused and intimidated a young Western Australian girl on Instagram and Whatsapp has been charged by Indian authorities.

It is alleged the abuse started when the girl was 11-years-old and continued for several years.

In 2023, WA detectives from Child Exploitation Operations were notified of an incident involving the girl in 2020.

She was the victim of online grooming, sextortion and other online offences by a person she met online. The abuse caused severe trauma.

Detectives determined that the offender lived in India, so they provided information to the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, and the matter was referred to Indian authorities via Interpol.

A man from Indore, Madhya Pradesh was arrested and charged in relation to criminal intimidation, transmitting of material depicting children in sexually explicit act, and sexual harassment upon a child with sexual intent.
