A northern suburbs man being treated in hospital for a gunshot wound after allegedly pointing what appeared to be a handgun at police has been charged with several weapons, drug and property damage offences.
Police officers were responding to a disturbance at a home on Drysdale Road in Craigie when they were confronted by the 54-year-old at about 8.10pm.
After the man allegedly failed to comply with requests to put down the suspected weapon, one police firearm was discharged.
The man received a gunshot wound to one of his hands and was taken into custody.
He was taken by St John WA – under police guard – to Royal Perth Hospital.
It has since been established the handgun he was holding was a gel-blaster.
The incident is being investigated by major crime detectives, with oversight by the Internal Affairs Unit.
On Sunday, police charged a 54-year-old man from Joondanna with the following offences:
- Two counts of carrying or possessing a prohibited weapon
