Dockers pay dearly for slip-ups; Which Eagles youngster impressed most?

It’s what Fremantle lacked in the big moments yesterday, resulting in a narrow loss to Sydney - a contest they led for more than 100 minutes and at every change, except the final siren.
Patrick Voss is a young, emerging forward who brings a hard, physical edge to his footy. He is not the reason why the Dockers lost, but he will feature in the review.
The positive is Voss managed five shots on goal, one less than game leader Josh Treacy. The negative? He returned just one goal and three behinds.
With 7½ minutes remaining, Voss had the chance to put Fremantle 15 points up, only to slam the ball into the post from 30 metres out directly in front.
A minute later, the 21-year-old’s highly dangerous kick into the middle of the ground was turned over.
It resulted in a Swans goal from Riley Bice after Neil Erasmus suffered a lapse in concentration, allowing the second-gamer to get goalside of him and kick truly for his first AFL major.
In his post-game press conference, Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir spoke to “youngish players getting caught up in moments” which left his side vulnerable.
The coach didn’t name names, but these are the moments the Dockers must improve in to become better.
West Coast youngster proves he’s one to watch
The early season showings of Eagles youngster Tyrell Dewar have caught the eye. A head-turner for track-watchers during the pre-season, he’s done the same in his two appearances in the season proper, elevating his game after seven outings in 2024.
The Naitanui Academy product was front and centre as the Eagles stunned reigning premiers Brisbane in the opening term of yesterday’s clash.
Dewar’s class and goal nous was on display courtesy of his two silky finishes. His versatility is proving a vital asset for new coach Andrew McQualter.
Originally seen as a crafty small forward, Dewar is now being deployed in different roles. He’s spent time at half-back and yesterday on the wing – his 591 metres gained was second only to Lions star Dane Zorko.
Dewar’s career-best performance of two goals, 20 disposals and seven marks left him as the fifth-highest rated player on the ground, leaving him in the box seat to receive the round’s Rising Star nomination.
Dewar will celebrate his 21st birthday on Thursday and no doubt he’ll be eyeing some birthday celebrations come Sunday’s Western Derby.
