A toddler is in a critical condition after being pulled from a swimming pool at a Crown hotel in Southbank.

Emergency services were called to the hotel complex in Whiteman Street, after a two-year-old boy was discovered unresponsive in its pool at about 10pm on Friday.

The toddler was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to the Royal Children’s hospital.

On Saturday, a hospital spokeswoman said the toddler was in a critical condition.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident. Crown is assisting with all investigations.

“Crown is saddened to confirm that this tragic incident happened on our premises,” a statement said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, and out of respect for them, no further comment will be made.”
