A man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly set a woman alight outside a home in Melbourne’s north, leaving her fighting for life.
Police were called to View Street in Glenroy about 6.40am Thursday after the man allegedly threw a flammable substance over the woman before lighting her on fire.
The 35-year-old Glenroy woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. She was in a critical but stable condition on Friday afternoon.
The alleged offender, a 41-year-old man from Glenroy, was arrested at the scene. Arson and explosives squad detectives later charged him with attempted murder, Victoria Police said on Friday.
Police alleged the man and woman are known to each other.
The man was remanded in custody and will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on November 7.
