Teens charged, six hospitalised after stolen car crashes on Gold Coast

By Catherine Strohfeldt

At least six people have been hospitalised, and two teenagers charged after a reportedly stolen car crashed into another vehicle in Coomera late on Friday night.

Police said PolAir had been tracking a silver Toyota Camry travelling southbound on the Pacific Motorway from Runcorn to Coomera and along the Old Pacific Highway.

The car – which had been reported stolen at Balmoral address on March 10 – reportedly crashed into a Toyota Rubuk between 9pm and 10pm at a roundabout near Foxwell Road and Whitewater Way, near the entrance of WhiteWater World.

Police charged two teens with a collective eight offences following a two-car crash involving a reportedly stolen vehicle on Friday night.

Police reported five teenagers aged between 13 and 17 were travelling in the Camry.

Paramedics were called about 9.46pm, and assessed five patients, including two adults from one vehicle – a woman in her 30s and a man, understood by police to be the driver – and three teenagers from the other.

All patients suffered minor injuries, and four were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in stable conditions. The man reportedly declined transport, although police said he was later taken to the same hospital.

Police added the other two teenagers were also transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital.

A 13-year-old Oxley girl and 15-year-old Keperra boy from the reportedly stolen vehicle were charged with a collective eight offences, including wilful damage, dangerous driving, and failing to provide a breath test.

Both of the charged teenagers were released from hospital and remained in custody. They were expected to appear before Southport Childrens Court on Monday, March 17.

Police said investigations were continuing, and called on anyone who had seen the accident on Friday night, or had relevant dashcam footage of the crash near the roundabout close to Foxwell Road and Whitewater Way, to come forward.
