Counter-terrorism police have charged a teenager over a plot to attack a school on Brisbane’s northside.

The 16-year-old is understood to have been pulled over by AFP officers in August after being monitored for some time.

It is believed he had attempted to buy firearms online and was planning to use them at the school.

Federal police said he had been charged with “one count of acts done in preparation for, or planning, terrorist acts” under federal criminal law.

An AFP spokeswoman said there was no current threat to public safety, and would not provide further comment.

Police did not provide details of which school was believed to be his target.

The teenager reportedly faced the Brisbane Magistrates Court last month, where an application by the media to report on the case was dismissed.
