It took eight fire crews more than two hours to bring the fire under control.

The large Queenslander had been subdivided into several units, according to a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman.

Police allege one resident deliberately set fire to items in his unit and the flames spread through the building. All the residents were evacuated.

A 19-year-old man was arrested at the scene overnight. He has since been charged with one count of arson and will face Brisbane Arrests Court.
